THE COAT OF ARMS OF THE BISHOP OF ALAMINOS

Interpretation of the Coat-of-Arms

The PASTORAL STAFF

The pastoral staff signifies the Pastoral Office of Bishop Marlo M. Peralta. In him is conferred the role of the Pastor which has two elements, that of seeking to promote the pastoral welfare of those who put under his charge, and at the same time, exercising his governing authority as he works to promote the welfare of the people of God under his care.

The SHIELD

Top Left: The Church of St. Dominic in San Carlos City. The Church takes on a special significance since it is where Bishop Marlo was baptized and confirmed, thus initiated to the Christian life. It is also his birthplace, where he grew up and where his vocation to the priesthood developed.

Top Right: The Praying Hands with Stigmata. Bishop Marlo believes that his vocation to the priesthood was in large part due to the devotion of his mother to Padre Pio. He also had an uncle-priest (deseased) who belonged to the Capuchin Order and who was an inspiration to him. But all else, the "Praying Hands" are a reminder for him that prayer forms an essential part of his life. The color brown as a background signifies harmony with creation and the environment.

Bottom Left: The Staff and the Lily of St. Joseph. The Diocese of Alaminos where Bishop Marlo will be exercising his pastoral ministry has for its Patron St. Joseph, the Husband of Mary and the Foster Father of Jesus. The Staff of St. Joseph also symbolizes his tasks to lead with firmness and compassion. And like St. Joseph, he will strive always to seek the will of God in the exercise of his Episcopal Ministry. The color green as a background signifies harmony with creation and the environment.

Bottom Right: The Crown and the Twelve Stars. It is the symbol of the Immaculate Conception, the Patroness of the Diocese of Urdaneta where Bishop Marlo exercised his ministry for almost 26 years until his appointment as Co-Adjuor Bishop of Alaminos. Also under the care and protection of the Blessed Mother, he is entrusting his life and episcopal ministry. The Color white as background signifies God's pure and unconditional love and that of the Blessed Mother.

The MOTTO

PAX HOMINIBUS. "Peace to All Men". The Motto is taken from the Liturgical Prayer, Gloria in Exelcis Deo, sung during the mass, whereby the congregation gives honor and praise to God the Almighty asking Him that peace may reign in the hearts of all men. Bishop Marlo Believes that one of his primary tasks is to promote peace, understanding and unity among all men and women, regardless of their status and perspective in life.
